National Dance Day Event in Los Angeles

Get out there and DANCE!

On tonight’s results show, we heard a little bit about the Los Angeles National Dance Day event that some of your favorite So You Think You Can Dance personalities will be attending. We have more information for the Angelenos who plan on getting their groove on!

Melinda Sullivan, Music Center Spotlight Awards alum and recent So You Think You Can Dance contestant, will start the morning with a warm-up.  Then participants will get moving with legendary choreographers and lyrical Hip Hop pioneers Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo (Nappy Tabs) for a Flash Mob Dance. 1)  Go to the National Dance Day event page on Facebook.

2)  RSVP to attend the event.

3)  Below the description of the event, select Video.

4)     Upload your videos to our wall!

Have fun, be creative, and help inspire your fellow dancers!  As Nigel has said, “Prove that the ‘Power of Dance’ can MOVE an entire Country!”

National Dance Day Being Recognized with Official Act of Congress

National Dance Day, a grassroots movement taking place on Saturday, July 31 that encourages the people of this nation to get up and move, is being recognized with an official act of Congress. Created by Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer and co-creator of the hit FOX series SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and founder of the Dizzy Feet Foundation, the aim of National Dance Day is to promote health and self-esteem through the art form of dance.

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, will introduce a National Dance Day resolution at a press conference on Saturday, July 31 in Washington, D.C., to promote dance education and physical fitness across the U.S.

In January, Congresswoman Norton introduced the Lifelong Improvements in Food and Exercise (LIFE) Act to promote exercise and diet changes. Norton’s LIFE bill directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to be a lead agency ... More »

Get out there and DANCE!

You are officially invited to join other fans of So You Think You Can Dance in a celebration of all dance styles and genres.

National Dance Day is July 31, 2010 and all you need to bring are your dance moves.

RSVP now on Facebook and share your videos, photos or comments describing how you plan to celebrate the day!  And since it’s always more fun to dance with others, don’t forget to share the event with your friends and invite them to participate in National Dance Day too!

You have until July 16 to submit your plans to the show and you may be contacted by the producers and mentioned in an episode of So You Think You Can Dance.

Get Excited for National Dance Day

So You Think You Can Dance executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe would like to declare July 31, NATIONAL DANCE DAY.

WHAT: NATIONAL DANCE DAY, a grassroots initiative that encourages the nation, young and old, to move!  Individuals, families, organizations and communities from across the nation come together through their creative expression in dance.  Any style of dance is welcome and imagination is recommended in order to get the most out of this celebratory day.

WHEN: Saturday, July 31

WHY: To continue to generate national awareness for dance, a medium of expression and storytelling which, through shows like So You Think You Can Dance, has proven its value in bringing individuals from all walks of life together through a positive platform that has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion.
