Season 7 superstar Alex Wong had his dance career temporarily sidelined by his Achilles injury, but that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his other dreams. Did you know Alex can sing? American Idol’s Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler put him through to Hollywood after he auditioned for them at San Diego Auditions for the show’s 11th season!
During his short time on the show, Alex was able to leave a lasting mark on us die hard SYTYCD fans. Of his two performances below, which was your favorite?
Last week, Ballet Dancer Alex Wong was injured as he was rehearsing for his Top 8 week Bollywood piece. He sustained a lacerated Achilles tendon and had surgery today to repair the damage. Good news – all went well according to Alex’s tweet: “I literally just got off the surgery table! Still a bit loopy! Im told all went well though! http://yfrog.com/28f2ggj.”
Season 7 contestant Alex Wong has never landed in the bottom three, yet he was eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance on Thursday after sustaining a lacerated Achilles. The ballet dancer was very saddened by the news that he’d have to leave the show to have surgery, but he has no regrets about his journey. We caught up with Alex on a conference call the morning after his elimination to learn more about his SYTYCD experience and his season-ending injury.
In a dramatic results show, injured contestant Alex Wong, 23, a Ballet dancer from Vancouver, Canada, was eliminated Thursday on So You Think You Can Dance. Unable to compete in last night’s performance show, Alex was placed in the bottom three with the two dancers who received the fewest of America’s votes: Billy Bell and Ashley Galvan. Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, and Adam Shankman then announced that due to Alex’s injury, he was unable to continue in the competition and therefore eliminated.
On Wednesday night’s Top 8 performance show, we learned that Alex Wong sustained an injury to what might be his Achilles’ heel. He received an MRI, and the doctors did not permit him to dance this week. Judge and Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe revealed that according to the new rules for Season 7, if a dancer is injured and misses the performances they will automatically be in the bottom three the next day. If he is unable to dance on next week’s show, he’ll be out of the competition.
