So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Voting Frequently Asked Questions

How do I vote?

There are three ways for you to vote on So You Think You Can Dance: (1) toll-free; (2) text voting (SMS); and (3) online at www.fox.com/dance and on the So You Think You Can Dance Facebook page.

(1)  Toll-free Voting:  Each dancer will be assigned a toll-free number during the show each week.  The guys and the girls will each be given their own set of numbers this season (855 GO HIM 01-10 and 855 GO HER 01-10) so make sure you watch So You Think You Can Dance on FOX each week (see local listings for dates/times in your area) and dial the telephone number of the dancer(s) for whom you wish to vote.

(2)  Text Voting:  Each dancer will be assigned a text message ‘keyword’ (which is each dancer’s first name) which will appear on screen alongside the short code 83676 each week.  Participating wireless customers may text the keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) relating to their dancer(s) of choice, and send it to the 5 digit short code 83676.  Only send the name of the dancer that you see on screen to the short code, as you cannot send a text message to the toll-free numbers. Please refer to www.fox.com/dance for the correct spelling of the dancers’ names. The terms and conditions of Text Voting can be found at fox.com/dance/terms.

(3)  Online Voting: If you have a Facebook account you can also vote online at www.fox.com/dance or at the So You Think You Can Dance Facebook page.  If you do not already have a Facebook account, you will need to create one before being able to vote online for So You Think You Can Dance.

Voting will open at the end of each show.  If voting by toll-free, during the show you just need to note the dancer(s) phone number for whom you wish to vote and then call after the show is over, as voting will NOT be open before that.  If voting by Text Message, you just need to know the name of the dancer(s) for whom you wish to vote and then text the name to the short code 83676 after the show is over, as voting will NOT be open before that.  Voting will begin at the end of each show and you will have at least 2 hours to cast your votes.  Online voting is limited to 50 votes per show and closes 2 hours after the Hawaii broadcast.  Online voting will open after the show ends or shortly thereafter.

Rules and procedures are subject to change at producers’ discretion without notice.

Who can vote?

(1) Toll-free Voting:  Anyone calling the toll-free numbers from an area code from within the Continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to cast their vote(s) for So You Think You Can Dance.

(2) Text Voting: Any wireless customer from the participating carriers who has the ability to text message from within the Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands can cast their vote(s) for So You Think You Can Dance.

(3) Online Voting:  Anyone with a Facebook account registered within the Continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to cast their vote(s) for So You Think You Can Dance.

When can I vote?

(1) Toll-free Voting: During the show you just need to note the number information for the dancer(s) for whom you wish to vote, and then call after the show is over as voting will NOT be open before that.  Voting for So You Think You Can Dance opens at the end of each show (see local listings for dates/times in your area) and stays open for at least 2 hours, subject to time zone restrictions.  Outside of these times, the toll-free lines will play a busy signal and your call will not count as a vote.  If you are calling from a cell phone and you are in a different time zone from your cell phone number, the voting systems will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your cell phone area code.  For example, if you have a New York cell phone area code but are calling from Los Angeles after the West Coast broadcast, you will be voting outside the East Coast voting window and your vote will not be accepted and you will hear a busy signal.  Try calling again from a landline telephone during the West Coast voting window.

Please note that it is not possible to deactivate the phone numbers of the dancers who have been eliminated at the end of the show. Therefore, if you call a toll-free number of a dancer who has just been eliminated within your valid vote window, you will still hear the ‘thanks for voting’ audio message but your vote will NOT count.  You can only cast a valid vote for the dancers who remain in the competition.

(2) Text Voting: During the show you just need to note the keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) for the dancer(s) for whom you wish to vote, and then text it to the 5 digit short code 83676 after the show is over as voting will NOT be open before that. Please refer to www.fox.com/dance for the correct spelling of the dancers’ names. Voting for So You Think You Can Dance opens at the end of each show (see local listings for dates/times in your area) and stays open for at least 2 hours, subject to time zone restrictions.  If you vote via text messaging outside of the vote window, you will receive a ‘vote closed’ message and your vote will not count, although message and data rates may apply to all messages sent and received.  If you are Text Voting from a cell phone and you are in a different time zone from your cell phone number, the voting systems will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your cell phone area code.  For example, if you have a New York cell phone area code but are texting from Los Angeles after the West Coast broadcast, you will be voting outside the East Coast voting window and your vote will not count and you will receive a ‘vote closed’ message.

If you try voting for a dancer who is eliminated at the end of the show, you will receive a message saying ‘we do not recognize your response, please try again’.  You can only vote for the dancers who remain in the competition.

(3) Online Voting:  Online voting closes 2 hours after the Hawaii broadcast.

How will having no results show impact the voting?

For this season of So You Think You Can Dance dancers will be eliminated towards the end of the show based on a combination of the vote results from the previous show (in most instances the previous week, but check your local listings) and the Judges’ opinion of the performances of the dancers that week who received the lowest number of votes.  As a result, those eliminated dancers will not have their voting information included in the recap at the end of the show and any vote attempts for those eliminated dancers will not count.

(1)  For Toll-Free Voting, it is not possible to deactivate the phone numbers of the dancers who have been eliminated at the end of the show. Therefore, if you call a toll-free number of a dancer who has just been eliminated within your valid vote window, you will still hear the ‘thanks for voting’ audio but your vote will NOT count.  Only votes cast for the dancers who remain in the competition will count.

(2)  For Text Voting, the keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) for the dancers who have been eliminated at the end of the show will be deactivated within moments of the results of the elimination being known.  If, within your valid vote window, you send the keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) of an eliminated dancer to the short code, you will receive a message saying ‘we do not recognize your response’ and your vote will not count.  Only votes cast for the dancers who remain in the competition will count. Please refer to www.fox.com/dance for the correct spelling of the dancers’ names.

(3)  For Online Voting, the dancers who are eliminated at the end of each show will have their vote option removed from the vote page once the results are known.  If you are in the Mountain, Pacific or Hawaiian time zone regions but go online to vote before the show is telecast in your region, you will see a ‘spoiler alert’ message as the results for that week will be revealed.

How many times can I vote?

(1) Toll-Free Voting:  You may vote as many times as you like via the Toll-Free Voting method although producers reserve the right to disqualify, block or remove any votes from any individual who votes by any electronic, mechanical or automated means, or otherwise tampers with the vote process.

(2) Text Voting:  You may vote as many times as you like via the Text Voting method, although producers reserve the right to disqualify, block or remove any votes from any individual who votes by any electronic, mechanical or automated means, or otherwise tampers with the vote process.

(3) Online Voting:  You may vote up to 50 times per Facebook account ID per episode via Online Voting.

How much does it cost to vote?

(1) Toll-free Voting: Telephone calls to So You Think You Can Dance voting lines are toll-free.  If you use a mobile phone to call, calling plan minutes will be used or deducted according to the terms of your carrier’s calling plan.  Note, if you reach a number which asks you to enter credit card information, you have misdialed and reached a service not connected with So You Think You Can Dance so you should hang up, check the correct number and dial again.

(2) Text Voting:  If you vote using Text Voting, then your carrier’s message and data rates may apply to messages sent and received.  Check charges for your text plan with your carrier. For additional information see the SMS Terms and Conditions located at fox.com/dance/terms.

(3) Online Voting:  Online Voting is free except for your standard internet access charges or data charges if you are using a web browser on your mobile device.

How do I know my vote has been counted?

(1) Toll-free Voting: If you are calling the toll-free numbers to cast your vote, your vote will count if you hear the ‘thanks for voting’ message.  However, for Toll-free Voting it is not possible to deactivate the phone numbers of the dancers who have been eliminated at the end of the show. Therefore, if you call a toll-free number of a dancer who has just been eliminated within your valid vote window, you will still hear the ‘thanks for voting’ audio but your vote will NOT count.  Your vote will only count for the dancers who remain in the competition.

(2) Text Voting:  If you are voting by text message, your vote(s) will count if you receive a ‘thanks for voting’ confirmation message for each dancer you have text voted for during the vote window, regardless of how many times you vote for a dancer.  This message may take some time to be received.  Your text vote was not sent successfully if your handset reads ‘message not sent’.

(3) Online Voting:  If you are voting online using a Facebook account, you will receive a ‘thanks for voting’ confirmation message page after each vote.  However, please note that if you vote online only your first 50 votes will count. After your 50th vote, no further votes will count for that show even though you will continue to see the ‘thanks for voting’ page.

If you are experiencing trouble with any of the voting methods, remember that you can always try another voting method.

How do I find out the results?

So You Think You Can Dance will air each week on FOX (see local listings for details).  The eliminations will be based on a combination of the vote results from the previous show (in most instances the previous week, but check your local listings) and the Judges’ opinion of the performances of the dancers that week who received the lowest number of votes.  The eliminations will occur at the end of the show before voting opens again.  So make sure you don’t miss a single minute of So You Think You Can Dance each week if you want to see how your vote affected the results!

Is it true that some people can cast votes outside of the 2 hour window after the show?

No, this is not true. As part of the process to ensure that the So You Think You Can Dance voting system is accurate and ready for the public to call and vote, a test window is built into the toll-free system for the morning of each vote show.  During this test window, anyone calling the toll-free numbers from a phone with a West Coast area code will hear the ‘thanks for voting’ message.  This vote window is for testing purposes only and any calls received during this time do not count as valid votes.  Your toll-free votes will only count if you call during your valid 2 hour vote window after the show, subject to time zone limitations.  Outside of these hours, toll-free votes will not count, even if you hear the ‘thanks for voting’ message.

Can I vote by using my cell phone?

Yes, you can vote using your cell phone, although cell minutes will be used even though the call is toll-free.  Contact your wireless carrier if you want to know how much you will be charged.  Additionally, if you are a wireless customer from a participating carrier you can vote using text messaging. Standard message and data rates may apply.  Only send the keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) of the dancer that you wish to vote for to the 5 digit short code 83676, as you cannot send a text message to the toll-free numbers. Please refer to www.fox.com/dance for the correct spelling of the dancers’ names.

If you are calling or text voting from a cell phone and you are in a different time zone from your cell phone number, the voting systems will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your cell phone area code.  For example, if you have a New York cell phone area code but are calling from Los Angeles after the West Coast broadcast, you will be voting outside the East Coast voting window and your vote will not be accepted.  Try calling again from a landline telephone during the West Coast voting window.

For more information on Text Voting, please read the SMS Terms and Conditions located at fox.com/dance/terms.

I couldn’t get through to the lines or all I get is a busy signal when I call – why?

Although the telephone network is designed to handle huge volumes of calls simultaneously, there may be times (particularly just after the show) when it will not be able to handle every single call due to the sheer volume.  If you are calling during your voting window but can’t get through to cast your vote, be patient and try again.

If you hear a busy signal, it may be that you are calling outside of the voting window.  When your voting window closes, lines will switch from a ‘thank you for voting’ message to a fast busy signal.

If you are sure you are calling within your voting window but still can’t get through, it may be that your local phone company has been flooded with calls.  Try waiting a few minutes before calling again.  If you still have problems, contact your local phone company.

If you are calling from a cell phone with an area code that is in a different time zone from that in which you are calling, the system will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your cell phone’s area code.  For example, if you have a New York cell phone area code but are calling from Los Angeles, you will be voting outside the East Coast voting window and your vote will not be accepted.  Try calling again from a land line telephone during the West Coast voting window.

If you are experiencing trouble with any of the voting methods, remember that you can always try another voting method.

Can I vote if I subscribe to a digital phone service or VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) service?

Yes, you can vote via the toll-free lines if you subscribe to some digital or internet-based phone systems, such as Vonage or Skype. However, note that digital phone and VOIP services often re-route outgoing calls to a different geographical location from which the call is being made. As a result, you may only be able to vote in the voting window to which your call has been re-routed. If you are trying to vote in the regular voting window for your region and your call is re-routed outside of your region by your service provider, you will not be able to vote (instead, you will hear a busy signal). However, you still have the availability to vote during the other voting window. For further information, contact your digital phone or VOIP service provider.

What will I hear if I call the toll-free numbers?

Voting begins at the end of the show when ALL of the dancers have performed and after the elimination has taken place – if you call before then, you will hear a busy signal and your vote will NOT count.

At the end of the show, phone lines will be opened and voting can begin.  Voting lasts for at least 2 hours, subject to local time zone restrictions, from the end of the show and during that time you will hear a pre-recorded message thanking you for voting for your chosen contestant(s).  Each dancer will have a number read/shown on air, and the phone message will confirm for whom you have voted.  After the voting window closes, no more votes will be accepted and lines will play out a busy signal.

Please note that for Toll-Free Voting it is not possible to deactivate the phone numbers of the dancers who have been eliminated at the end of the show. Therefore, if you call a toll-free number of a dancer who has just been eliminated within your valid vote window, you will still hear the ‘thanks for voting’ audio but your vote will NOT count.  Your vote will only count for the dancers who remain in the competition.

When I called, I was told to call a “900” number – isn’t “So You Think You Can Dance” voting toll-free?

If you call to vote for your favorite So You Think You Can Dance dancer and hear a message to call a “900″ number, or if you hear anything other than ‘thanks for voting’, you have misdialed.  Do not call this “900″ number to vote as “900″ numbers are not connected to So You Think You Can Dance voting.  Please try the So You Think You Can Dance toll-free numbers again, dialing carefully.

When I called one of the toll-free lines, I heard the wrong dancer number – why?

All lines for So You Think You Can Dance are tested before going on-air to make sure the lines work properly and are playing out the correct audio.  If you call and hear the wrong dancer number, it’s possible you accidentally misdialed, so check the number and dial again.  However, it should be noted that votes are always counted as dialed, regardless of the audio heard.

Why can’t I vote by the toll-free numbers using a payphone?

Votes from payphones will be blocked.  To vote for your favorite dancer(s), use a standard land line telephone or cell phone.  If you use a cell phone to call, airtime and applicable roaming and long distance charges will apply.

Voting by messaging on your cell phone – What is text messaging/SMS?

Text messaging – sometimes known as SMS (short messaging service) – is a way of communicating short text messages via your cell phone.  Most (but not all) handsets have this feature.  For So You Think You Can Dance, only customers of the following wireless carriers with area codes from within the Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands can text their vote:  AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile, Nextel, Boost, Alltel, U.S. Cellular, Virgin Mobile, Dobson, Cincinnati Bell, Cellular South, NTELOS, CellCom, Carolina West, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular One, Centennial Communications, EKN, GCI Comms, Illinois Valley Cellular, Immix, Inland Cellular, Nex-Tech, Revol, United Wireless, West Central Wireless.  Wireless subscribers can vote by text message using their cell phone keypad to write a new message containing the keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) for the dancer for whom you wish to vote, and then sending it to the 5 digit short code 83676.  Only send the name of the dancer that you see on screen to the short code, you cannot send a text message to the toll-free numbers. To get help with voting by text messaging, send the keyword HELP to 83676.  For full mobile terms relating to So You Think You Can Dance text voting go to fox.com/dance/terms.

How do I text my vote using a cell phone?

As with the toll-free voting, each dancer will be assigned a keyword (which is the dancer’s first name) which will appear on screen during the performance.  To vote, simply start a new message containing the name of the dancer for whom you wish to vote and send it to the 5 digit short code 83676.  Only send the name of the dancer that you see on screen to the short code, you cannot send a text message to the toll-free numbers. If done correctly, you will receive a message confirming your first valid vote per dancer during the voting window regardless of how many votes you cast. Your carrier’s standard message and data rates may apply to messages sent and received.  Text message voting will open at the end of each show and stay open for at least 2 hours, subject to local time zone limitations.  Voting will NOT be open during the show or outside the two hour time period determined by the area code on your cell phone.  Votes sent outside of the voting window will be invalid, and you will receive a message stating voting is closed in your region.  If you are sending your text vote from a cell phone with an area code that is in a different time zone from that in which you are texting, the network will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your telephone area code.  So, if you have a New York cell phone area code but are voting from Los Angeles during the West Coast voting window, your vote will not be accepted.  Try calling the toll-free number from a land line during the West Coast voting window instead, or voting online.  To get help with voting by text messaging, send the keyword HELP to 83676

Is the text messaging vote system the same as the toll-free system?

The design of the Text Voting system is exactly the same as the toll-free voting system in terms of open/close times and regions. Please make sure you watch the complete show to find out the right keywords (which are the dancers’ first names) to text each week as dancers will be eliminated during the show.

Who can text their vote?

For So You Think You Can Dance, customers of the following wireless carriers can text their vote:  AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile, Nextel, Boost, Alltel, U.S. Cellular, Virgin Mobile, Dobson, Cincinnati Bell, Cellular South, NTELOS, CellCom, Carolina West, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular One, Centennial Communications, EKN, GCI Comms, Illinois Valley Cellular, Immix, Inland Cellular, Nex-Tech, Revol, United Wireless, West Central Wireless.  Subscribers must have a handset with two-way text messaging capability and have area codes from within the Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.  For full SMS Terms and Conditions, go to fox.com/dance/terms.

Can I send multiple votes in a single message?

When texting your vote, you should send only one vote at a time. If you do not receive a ‘thanks for voting’ confirmation message (one per dancer you vote for per voting window) then your vote will not count and you should try again by sending a single vote at a time within the valid vote window.

When I tried to vote, my handset said ‘message not sent’ – why?

Like the toll-free voting, the text messaging network is designed to handle huge volumes of votes simultaneously.  In the unlikely event that congestion is experienced, the notice ‘message not sent’ may appear on your handset.  Please be patient and try again later.  And, don’t forget to vote within your time zone’s voting window!  If you are not a wireless customer, you will not be able to text message your vote for So You Think You Can Dance.  Call the toll-free numbers, or vote online if you have a Facebook account.

How do I vote online?

Online voting is available to Facebook account holders.  Simply go to www.fox.com/dance and follow the links to vote.  Vote online at the end of each show or shortly thereafter.  Online voting closes 2 hours after the Hawaii broadcast of a show. During the vote window, you will see a ‘vote’ button.  When you click on the ‘vote’ button you will be directed to a Facebook login page where you will need to enter your e-mail address and password to log in (if you are not already logged in to Facebook).  If you do not currently have a Facebook account you will not be able to vote online unless you create a new account (but you can still vote via toll-free or, if you are a customer of a participating wireless carrier you can also vote via text messaging).  Once you successfully log in using your Facebook account you will be prompted to select the dancer(s) for whom you want to vote and complete a ‘CAPTCHA’ and click ‘vote’.  A CAPTCHA is a security measure which requires you to enter the scrambled letters/numbers you see on your screen.  If you do not correctly enter the CAPTCHA information you will be prompted to try again.  If you successfully submit your vote, you will receive a page that thanks you for your vote and confirms that this activity has been added to your Facebook Timeline, Ticker and Newsfeed. Your vote will be added to Facebook only once for each dancer for which you submit a vote, and you will have the option to add a message to the Facebook post. If you do not want your vote activity to be added to Facebook, you can remove the individual vote post by clicking the ‘Remove’ link next to the vote confirmation message on the thank you page. Alternatively, you can turn the ‘Add activity to Timeline’ feature off entirely by clicking the ‘Off’ button in the top right-hand corner of the page. If you turn the feature off, you will be presented with the option to post your vote to Facebook by clicking the ‘SHARE YOUR VOTE’ button on the thank you page. This will also allow you to share your vote only once per dancer. The ‘Add activity to Timeline’ feature can be toggled on and off at any time.

You may vote up to 50 times per show.  Any additional votes you cast or attempt to cast above this limit will NOT count.

If you are experiencing trouble with any of the three vote methods, you can always try another voting method.

Why do you need a Facebook account to vote online?

Logging into your Facebook account is a key security feature to guard against voting fraud.

What is the minimum software requirements for voting online?

To vote online, you must have an active Facebook account, have javascript enabled, have cookies enabled and you must not remove the voting app from your list of apps on the Facebook side during a vote window.

I’m seeing the ‘vote closed’ page during the active vote window for online – why?

If you’re sure you are trying to vote online during the active vote window but you’re seeing the ‘closed’ page, please clear your browser cache and then refresh your page. It may also be that the start of the online voting window has been delayed in order to make changes to the vote page to remove dancers who have been eliminated live on the show, so please be patient and try again in a few moments or try another vote method.

I am having trouble voting online – why?

Although the Internet can handle huge volumes of vote submissions simultaneously, there may be times (particularly just after the show) when your local service provider may not be able to handle every attempt due to the sheer volume.  If you are trying to vote during the vote window but it isn’t processing your attempt, be patient and try again later or you can always vote using another vote method instead.

Is FOX collecting personal information through Online Voting?

When you use the online voting method, you will be asked to share some personal information with FOX for vote verification purposes and purposes set forth in the FOX.com Privacy Policy.  Please refer to the FOX.com Privacy Policy at http://www.fox.com/policy.php for more information about the personal information collected by www.fox.com/dance and how that information may be used.

Why am I getting a ‘page does not exist’ or ‘online voting not currently available in your location’ error page when trying to vote online from within the U.S.?

If you are trying to vote from within the U.S. but see a So You Think You Can Dance page which says ‘The page you are looking for does not exist’ or ‘Online voting is not currently available in your location’, it may be that your connection to the internet is being routed via a region not in the U.S.  This may be caused by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) experiencing local level congestion during peak times and therefore load balancing the traffic via a less congested region, which could be located outside of the U.S.  If you feel you have reached this page in error, please clear your browser’s cache and then refresh the page.  If the problem persists, please be patient and try again later, or use another method to cast your vote.

What’s being done about power dialing?

The So You Think You Can Dance voting process is administered and carefully monitored by an independent vote management company. The producers, in consultation with this independent vote management company, reserve the right to remove so-called “power dialing votes” (via any method, not just toll-free) that are identified as having been cast in such a significant block, either by technical enhancements or otherwise, that it could unfairly influence the outcome of the voting.

How are we going to vote for the final 4? There were no numbers given out, online voting was closed and no information was given during the show to let us know what is going on. I really dislike this format and hope Fox takes note and goes back to 2 shows. This format is unfair to the dancers and the fans. I agree this is the best reality show on and the dancers are stellar. The choreography is outstanding. As far as Cyrus, the voters have kept him safe. The judges cannot keep someone else when he is not in the bottom 2 or 3. That would be totally unfair. Cole should be in the top 4, but America voted and Cyrus got more votes. Please Fox, change the format back and please make online voting more simple. This is the ONLY show on TV that I will not fail to be home to view. Period.

I too have watched every season and haven’t missed one. I love this show better than any; but, the new format and voting is not good. I’m all ready to vote and then after the eliminations, I don’t know the numbers of the remaining dancers. I try to write a list every week which takes away from the enjoyment of the show. Hope things change for next year.

This is the only reality show I watch and I agree that one show a week is not enough. This show used to be in the top ratings, but because of Olympics it had to delay for few weeks. Changing of the format also causes the rating drop. In addition, I don’t see any promotion for this show at all. I hope FOX will consider that there are many fans of SYTYCD and give the show a chance to continue for the next season.

By the way, how can we vote for the finale?

Did not care for new format this year. I liked when it was on for two nights. Do not think it is fair to the dancers that they had to learn and rehearse new dances and then got voted off that same night.

PLEASE bring back the 2 shows – this is not cutting it! You should be able to vote based on that night’s performance, not last week. Cole had such an awesome show and then he gets axed! Not sure I love the boy/girl winners – we’ll see after this finale. Also, please, please bring the show back during fall or winter. It was so hard to keep up with in the summer when no one wants to be home watching TV!!

I am so confused about how to vote after this week’s show… We already know who is in the final 4 and they are having the dance finale next Tues, so does that mean that there is no voting this week? I wish they would have made this more clear on the show this week.

My question. How much $$ does Facebook realize because of the producers decision to have online voting that way.
My second question. Why 50 votes per person voting unless there was some huge monetary gain to the show for 50 votes vs 1 vote per person.
HATE the fact that dancers can be eliminated based on last weeks votes after they danced great this week. How cruel.
I’m only echoing comments by others so please pay attention to your viewers.

I think the nigil should reserve his comments about who he’s voting for until the night the winner is announced. He always tries to unfairly influence the results. No other judge does that and i respect them for that. I comtinue watching despite Nigil’s shortcomings but I am tempted to stop viewing the program as a result. Someone need to reign him in.

Wish I would have known that you can’t just vote online (without a facebook account) while the show was airing. Then I could have written down my favorite dancers phone numbers so that I could call and vote. At this point, I am unable to vote…so pretty unhappy.

Amen to the previous comments! The fact that I’m terribly disappointed in this season is an understatement. You have such a talented and diverse group of dancers–possibly the best season ever–and they are being short-changed.IDancers do fabulous routines, are promptly eliminated, and then I don’t even want to vote I’m so confused and angry! I watch very little television–I’m a busy, working grandmother of almost 60–and I find few shows enjoyable. This used to be my favorite but not so much now.

Love this show. The choreography and dancers are amazing and the judges are great. Hate the new format. It’s totally unfair that dancers who have previously been eliminated but don’t know it yet may put in a steller performance only to find out that it can’t be appreciated thru voting. I do like the boy/girl winners. It was too hard to decide before when you had graceful ladies against powerful guys.

For a person who never has a chance to go to dance school, Cyrus was a outstanding dancer. Keeping up with everybody. His style is awesome, too. I think if was rude for one of the judge to say say “I will not vote for you”. However, this young man deserves to be #1. GO TEAM CYRUS! YOUR ARE A WINNER in my book! I’m proud of YOU!

    Shame on Nigel,

The name of the show is “So You Can Dance” not the Dancer Who has paid and taken the most dance lessons. Nigel has saved Kion at least two (2) times. On the last show Nigel says that he cannot vote for Cyrus. Is Nigel cheating for Kion? Is Nigel a cheat? Cyrus has never been in the bottom four and yet Nigel is now saying that he is once again going to save Kion by refusing to vote for Cyrus. Training does not define a dancer. There are Child Prodigys who are born to dance.

What is going on between Kion and Nigel? Judges should be fair and impartial. Nigel has basically stated that Nigel favors Kion regardless of what the viewers think.

Though Cyrus’ technique was not as prolific as the other dancers, each and every week the judges told other dancers to connect to the audience; Cyrus did just this, each week, and that is why he was in the finals. I held high respect for Nygel but thought his letting the world know who he was voting for was in bad taste and found it surprising and unbelievable. You can say it was your favorite dance or even your favorite dancer but to influence the audience by saying who were voting for was not the professional level I have always felt this show held. For that moment I had so much more respect for Cyrus who after a sensational dance with Twitch had to stand in front of milllions and hear this, which he did with much grace and modesty. Mr. Lithgoe, you can critique the dancers but stating emphatically who you were voting for is not what a judge, much less a producer, should do, especially on the last dance of the evening. An apology to Cyrus should happen, but the unncessary damage is already done. I unfortunately will always remember that moment and the utter shock as to what I was hearing and the look on Cyrus’ face.

My favorite show on t.v. – I grow to absolutely LOVE those great kids!!! I did not care for the online voting where you have to identify numbers & letters for EACH vote cast. I am 73 and that is way too time consuming!!! Why can’t I vote ‘however many votes’ I have – for whichever contestant- with just one number of my allotted 50 where-ever I want them? I’ve worked up a real sweat with all my voting work!!! And . . . . it’s past my bedtime!!!!!

What in the world is Nigel doing. He commends Cyrus all season then slams him on Cyrus’s biggest night doing his best routine. What purpose does Nigel have to tell the world that he is not voting for him. He had no business saying that on live TV. It is suppose to be the fans making their own decisions. The sad part is that it is too late for appologies the damage has forever been done. How cruel and selfish of an act on Nigel’s part, He in some way needs to be repremended.

It makes me upset that now people are going to remember what Nigel said at the very end, not the performances of the 2 hour show, not the interviews of each dancers, not their team work and humbliness. reading what viewers are saying that they will vote for Cyrus because of Nigel comments, is very unfair to Chehon. One comment I saw was Chehon doesn’t care if he wins, thus that fan thinks because he said that he doesn’t deserve to win because he is not ambitious enough, Chehon was humble and it showed that as a dancer, he grew not only in techique but as a Whole Rounded person and to tribute on air to his mother, speaks that Chehon has respect. All 4 dancers were breath taking and since they are changing a lot of the show, why can all 4 be winners. You do not see dancers have show only for themselves,

I think Nigel should keep his mouth shut about who his favorites are and who he is voting for. I don’t think it is fair to any of the dancers. It’s like he is trying to sway people to vote for the one he wants and that isn’t fair. The other judges say you are one of my favorites or some other comments, but not the blatant comments Nigel has. This is the second season he has done this and a lot of us think he should not be allowed to do this any more. I felt bad for Cyrus tonight!

My hubby and I have watched this show religiously since season 2. We missed season 1, unfortunately. HOWEVER, season 9 is the subject of my comment. This household loves all 4 of the dancers this year! For Nigel to pronounce favorites on the show “ever” is irritating. Last year’s winner, Melanie, still reigns as far as I’m concerned. But I digress.
We did not understand that SYTYCD was going to have TWO winners this year, and thus, we did not cast votes for our favorite female. (Sorry Eliana…we love you, but Tiffany’s our favorite)
In addition, the eliminations of dancers immediately after performances was depressing. We watch the show for the pure joy and beauty of the dancers and to see what the choreographers, costumers, makeup, etc., have done to create a story each week. So instead of feeling uplifted at the end of the show this year, we felt depressed. THIS VOTING FORMAT IS NOT WORKING. REPEAT. NOT WORKING.
Additionally, Nigel’s HIGHLY inappropriate remark to Cyrus is reprehensible. He absolutely should apologize. But, Chehon should not suffer with less support because Nigel temporarily lost his mind. Cyrus was extremely gracious and professional as he received those horribly insensitive words. IF that was to be said at all, it was to be said privately. Cyrus, you deserve a career, and it’s obvious you’ll have it.
We really wouldn’t mind who wins this year, but we are pulling for Chehon and Tiffany. (I have a thing about underdogs.)
Remarks and insults aside, FOX NEEDS TO KEEP THIS SHOW ON THE AIR!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Nigel,

My husband and I have been fans of SOTYCD since day one; I’ve voted over the years, and we’ve attended the tour show each year, too.

We were out of town on business and had to DVR this week’s show, which we watched as soon as we could. We loved the performances, but were shocked when you actually told Cyrus that you were voting for Chehan. We believe that was completely inappropriate, and could have swayed the voting either way …. either agreeing with you, and voting for Chehan, or because of your endorsement, attempting to counter-vote and voting for Cyrus. One would never know the ‘true’
outcome. Yes, my ‘favorites’ are, too, Eliana and Chehan – pity that we now feel the ‘crowning’ or the ‘loss’ of any is possibly not what should have happened.

Now, the only ‘fair’ way to handle this would be to ‘crown’ both young men, and in doing that, crowning both Eliana and Tiffany so as to not leave out only one, and never indicating what the precise voting actually was. We believe in your expressing your opinion, you tainted the outcome.

Nigel shamed himself and the show with his crass lack of class, his arrogance and his totally inappropriate announcement that he would not be voting for Cyrus. Nigel’s transparent effort to influence the voting was unconscionable. Cyrus showed great poise, class and humility while hearing Nigel’s stunningly unnecessary and demeaning comments to Cyrus. Having made so many supportive comments to Cyrus all season and then to turn on him at the end is the height of hypocrisy. Unfortunately, the damage is done. Nigel definitely owes Cyrus an apology and the audience a promise that he won’t make such comments about a contestant in public ever again.
