Second Annual National Dance Day is July 30

The Second Annual National Dance Day will take place on July 30Mark your calendar—National Dance Day is back! The second annual National Dance Day will take place once again on the last Saturday of July (July 30, 2011). In the near future, three routines will be available right here on so people of all levels can join in on the fun.

“It’s a wonderful way to stay healthy and have fun whilst doing it,” National Dance Day creator and SYTYCD Executive Producer/Judge Nigel Lythgoe said on Thursday’s Top 20 results show.

WHAT: NATIONAL DANCE DAY, a grassroots initiative that encourages the nation, young and old, to move!  Individuals, families, organizations and communities from across the nation come together through their creative expression in dance.  Any style of dance is welcome and imagination is recommended in order to get the most out of this celebratory day.

WHEN: Saturday, July 30

WHY: To continue to generate national awareness for dance, a medium of expression and storytelling which, through shows like So You Think You Can Dance, has proven its value in bringing individuals from all walks of life together through a positive platform that has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion. Most importantly, the day is intended to promote health and wellness nationwide.

HOW: Three videos will be released Wednesday, July 6 with different levels of choreography, making it possible for people of all ages and dance backgrounds to celebrate.

National Dance Day was recognized by Congress last year. Learn more about the movement brought to Washington, D.C. by Nigel Lythgoe and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC). Share your D-Day ideas in the SYTYCD forums and stay tuned to this site for more information to come.

Why doesn’t our wonderful city of Milwaukee hold a National Dance Day downtown Milwaukee,Something fun for once, wake up the mayor, let him know, how great it would have a Natinal Dance Day, I know it’s too late for this year but not only our Mayor but all the other trustees setting in there office waiting for time to pass by, MILWAUKEE PUT THIS ON YOUR AGENDA FOR NEXT YEAR, And not down by the lake, where we have to pay, right downtown.

where was the dance day at DC? Had four folks looking up and down the Mall, from the Capital to the Washington monument…. all with no luck. Also, no employee appeared to even be aware of the event. Grand-daughter (4 YO) was really disappointed. She wanted to see Mary Murphy. Better luck next year.
