Robert Roldan Gets Real

Robert Roldan finished Season 7 in third place.

When the Season 7 So You Think You Can Dance Tour stopped in Los Angeles, CA, we caught up with LA resident Robert Roldan. The second runner-up candidly spoke about his fans, Allison Holker, GLEE, and more!

With only two stops left in the 40-city tour, Robert was savoring every moment. “I’m going to miss everyone on tour,” he said. “I know that a lot of them will be moving to LA, but I won’t see them as much as I do now. Also, I feel like I’m going to miss being on stage with them and dancing with them all the time. Seeing the people that support the show and getting to meet the fans—I’m going to miss that a lot—because they’re the reason why I got where I am now.”

Being from the LA area, Robert couldn’t believe he was getting the opportunity to dance at the Staples Center with the 2010 Tour. “Oh my gosh! When they told me we were going to be performing at the Staples Center I was like, ‘You’re joking right? There’s no way we’re going to be performing there.’ When they confirmed it I was like, ‘Holy crap, I’m so excited!’ All my family and friends are going to be there, I’m so excited.”

Robert performs many dances on the tour, but which is his favorite? “My favorite dance is probably ‘Fix You’ with Allison, and Travis Wall choreographed it. Every time that I’ve done it with Allison, it feels like a new dance to me. It never gets old. None of my dances get old, but that one has a special place in my heart. I know that for my mom also, every time I do it, I do it for her. Sometimes it can get really heavy on my heart, but I know that with Allison there with me—I don’t think I could do this with anybody else because she has been the most inspiring person to work with. I’m so glad I got to work with her in that aspect. She knows Travis’ mother from before and it’s just something I don’t think I’ll ever forget.”

What’s next for the Contemporary dancer? “I live in LA, clearly, and I want to stay here and I want to start acting a lot, and singing as well. One of my biggest goals is to be on GLEE as a character. Something like that—a TV show, TV series, or movie—is what I strive for next. I’m really excited to be here and shoot out of the gate. I’m ready to do it.”

Season 8 auditions are currently in progress. Robert’s advice to the Season 8 hopefuls is, “Confidence is key. If you’re not confident in yourself then no one can be confident in you. Don’t ever give up. Quitting is something that you can’t do when it comes to this show. I think if this is a dream of yours, you’ll do anything to get it. Just make sure you have confidence in yourself and always stay true to yourself. People will say, ‘I don’t like you and I don’t like the way you dance,’ but as long as you love to do it, people can’t hate you for that.”

To all of Robert’s fans he says, “Thank you so much. You guys are the biggest blessing to me and I can’t be where I am today without them. Everything they’ve done for me and all the people I’ve seen throughout the entire tour and the people who have messaged me through the show, I can’t say anything more than thank you so much. I wish I could meet every single one of you and give you the biggest hug in the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
