SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Top 11 Finalists Revealed

Season 7 Top 11

Season 7 Top 11

After thousands of auditions featuring some of the best dancers ever to try out, the judges of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE announced that Season Seven will have 11 finalists instead of 10. The Top 11 finalists are Alexie Agdeppa, Billy Bell, Kent Boyd, Lauren Froderman, Ashley Galvan, Robert Roldan, Jose Ruiz, Cristina Santana, Melinda Sullivan, Adéchiké Torbert and Alex Wong.

Get to know the new finalists and their dance styles when each of the Top 11 perform on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: MEET THE TOP 11 airing Thursday, June 10 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The special will showcase the finalists and the All-Stars dancing together in their own styles and genres, as well as in eye-popping group numbers choreographed by Wade Robson, Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo, Sonya Tayeh, Travis Wall and Jason Gilkison.

The competition begins Wednesday, June 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) when the Top 11 dance for the judges and America on the season’s first two-hour performance show. The finalists will work with their randomly selected All-Star partner and a world-renowned choreographer on a dance routine in the specialty genre of their partner. After each Wednesday performance show, the phone lines will open and the fate of the finalists – one of whom will be named America’s Favorite Dancer – will be left up to the voting fans.

On the live results shows beginning Thursday, June 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live PT/tape-delayed), the three dancers with the lowest number of votes will be announced. The finalists in the bottom three will perform solo routines with the hope of convincing the judges to keep them in the competition. The judges then decide which dancers remain and which one is eliminated.

Additionally, the live results shows will feature live performances by today’s hottest music stars and dance acts. On Thursday, June 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), R&B superstar Usher will sing his latest hit, “OMG,” and acclaimed dance duo Karine Plantadit and Keith Roberts will sizzle as they take the stage.

I believe this show has lost what made this show what it is! If you want an All Star show, then do a All Star show. The All Stars have had a chance to prove their selves to all of America! I can name a number of great dancers that started as exciting dancers but not great dancers. With the help of the show they grew and grew to be amazing.
This show is about opportunity for dancers that have not had a chance. Not ones that have made it! So we need to give 20 dancers an opportunity not 10 or 11 whatever the number is.
In addition, I think it’s a shame that you expect these young dancers to return time and time again for the “potential” to be on the show. A lot can happen over a one year time period… just look at the personal lives of the judges themselves! I think it is a shame that brilliant dancers are cut and expected to return another year, simply because SYTYCD decided to do an all star show.

    Such a Shame!

I ve watched all seasons (with my husband) never loose an episode, even record them because with each show you got to know the contestant better. I felt they were like “”friends” but this season the show has lost that quality, that flavor. I hope for next season this will change.

New structure for the show is not for me. I love seeing the All Stars. I really do. I just miss the mess at the beginning of the show with the 20 something dancers. I enjoy getting to know them as they grow. Takes them longer the old way.

I completely understand why this new structure makes more sense in a scheduling perspective (less coreography is required and there is less show this way too). Saving money is always a good thing but seeing as this is one of the only shows I really follow in the off season I didn’t find that it too long in the past years. I’m going to miss this show when it ends early this year. Sniff, sniff.

Hopefully they take the show back to the old structure next year and find a different way to bring in the all stars that we all love to see again. Got to love Twitch, Lauren, Comfort, Courtney, Pasha, Anna, etc. Hopefully this comment gets to someone who will be able to put the show back to the way it was in the past.

I HATE this season. I have zlready watched the “all-stars” in previous seasons, why would i want to again? I want to watch 2 seaqson 7 coontestants dance with each other. not hope to go they compare with higher, more experienced dancers… if it doesn;t go back to normal soon…. SYTYCD will lose one viewer who has been watching for years… and others will follow.

I feel the reason some of the top dancers (according to the judges) are in the bottom 3 is because the voters feel that they are safe….so we voters vote for the others that we think have a chance of making it….I think the judges need to make this public during the show, before the voting begins–so we (the voters) aren’t misleaded..
it happened with DANCING WITH THE STARS

As an avid and loyal SYTYCD viewer I have to give the thumbs down to the new format of the show. Because with each routine I have to try to focus only one dancer/contestant I find it hard to follow and I find that I do not have the same vested interest as in the past. I really enjoy watching two contestants dancing together and watching all contestants grow throughout the season. I hope that SYTYCD will return to the 20 contestant format. I have always looked forward to the show but have lost my interest this season and have no desire to watch. I also miss Mary Murphy, her screaming and all; she brings a nice spice and fire to the judging. I also miss the switching up of the judges each week, which I find gives a unique flavor an quality to each episode.

I miss the old format as well. Where are all the ballroom routines? Where are the performances that dazzle us for being so far from the dancers original style? I think that the choreographers are being truly cheated this season as well. Very few times before, the choreographers would have to slow down their routines for the dancers because they were too challenging to learn in a week. But now, I feel that the new contestants aren’t being challenged at all. Every week we see Jazz, Contemporary and Broadway, maybe Hip-hop. There’s no variation for the viewer and no challenge for the performer. The audience and the dancer are each completely missing the journey.
The all-stars were so loved on their own seasons for being amazing outside of their own style. It’s bad enough that mainly contemporary dancers got picked for the show this season, beyond that, they are doing contemporary every week! I think this format is a complete waste of the new contestants talent. The winner of this season will have learned maybe half of what past winners have learned in their seasons. Please bring back the old format for the sake of the dancers and the viewers!

I may be way off but as I see it while Billy is an excellently skilled dancer; he is not bringing masculine strength to the floor. For example, watching him in the African number it looked like he was the female rather than a male (animal) contender. Look at the lifts. In addition, he may actually care about the others but it does not show through his actions. He does not come across sincere even when someone is leaving the show. It looks almost like an afterthought for him when he gives a quick hug. Maybe he could review his dances and interaction with a friend who will point out whether what I am saying has any merit. I wish him the best.

I am still trying to decide whether I like the new format. I like seeing some of the All Stars again, but feel that this show is exceptional as it gives young people the chance they might not otherwise get to learn & excel at dancing. I really love Alex’s expetise but I feel that he should not have been accepted as he was already in a ballet company. (same as Billy & Robert- both also quite talented) I was sorry to see the gentleman with the hamstring injury not make it. I feel he would have been wonderful. On another note: Does anyone else think that Kent & Lauren would be outstanding performing the final dance routine from “Dirty Dancing”. I think Dorianna Sanchez should lobby for this!!!
